{scheduling} family, child, engagement, + maternity sessions are all scheduled in the late afternoons and evenings on sunday-thursday.  sometimes i can schedule a friday session.  i do not work on saturday’s during the summer/fall.  the best time of day to schedule sessions is during the golden hour which is the hour just before sunset.  i realize this timing could be tricky with little ones and early bed times so i try to be as flexible as i can (but if you can swing it, i highly recommend using the golden hour!) 🙂

{newborn scheduling} these sessions are scheduled for your home, during the week (mon-thurs) starting at 10am.  i like to schedule newborn sessions between 5 days and two weeks, but again i can be flexible and will do the session when the time is right for you and your baby.  newborn sessions are about 2-3 hours long and within this time i take many photos of family, siblings, and baby with a more lifestyle approach.  i will also pose the baby if sleeping well enough in a few different natural sleeping poses.  i bring lots of blankets, wraps, and hats so no worries providing your own props (but happy to use any items  you had in mind!)

{booking a session} you can email me some dates that work for you and i will email you back to confirm a date, time, and location.  its best to try to book your summer and fall sessions early as the months seem to fly by.  i don’t require a down payment but i will send you a contract to sign prior to our session.  the session fee is due at the time of the session.  i can accept cash, check or will invoice you through pay pal.  i will reschedule sessions due to sickness or bad weather.  you can expect your images to be sent to you within 2 weeks of our session via a link.  you can expect between 25-75+ images… it ranges from session to session so each session is different and hard to pin point a certain amount.  i don’t limit the number of images i send you… just depends on how many we can get.  travel fees may apply to sessions outside of madison

{what to expect at your session} fun and great photos, i hope!  🙂 i know how stressful getting kids and husbands (love you dads!) to cooperate before and during the session.  most people are nervous and stressed before the session even starts and kids can be shy so be reassured that this is completely  normal and we will work at a pace everyone is comfortable with and i will guide you through what to do!  basically you can forget about the kids (you got them to the session now let me do my job! lol).  99% of the time sessions are fun and its over before you know it!   i encourage parents to be playful, goofy and happy during the session because that will help kids relax and have fun and naturally smile.  i don’t recommend bringing bribes with you to the session (like candy) because this technique usually fails with the little ones just wanting candy and crying over the candy (and making messy faces).  however, i support any bribing you may want to do AFTER the session like getting dinner or ice cream or playing at the park.  🙂  thanks for your help on this!

{what to wear} i get asked this question A LOT!!  its best to use solid colors in natural tones that coordinate with the season.  plaid shirts and strips are good but you don’t want a very busy pattern as it may not photograph very well.  i usually suggest taking a look on pinterest for inspiration or go to your favorite store and pick out a color or style you like then try to coordinate from there.  i’ve had clients tell me they’ve bought a whole family’s wardrobe for photos at old navy.. now that’s what i call one stop shopping.  how easy!! 🙂
